The Dead Weather - I Cut Like A Buffalo (Glow in the Dark)
Wow it has definitely been too long. I recently changed jobs and don't have quite the time for record buying like I used to, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been any tasty vinyl coming my way. So, as a return to glory, I give you Jack White's 3rd band The Dead Weather and "I Cut Like a Buffalo." Now, this would be a worthwhile post for just the song alone. It's a crazy almost reggae-rock song with confusing lyrics and sounds like nothing the master has done before. But that's not why this is a sweet record. White's Third Man Records is my favorite label around right now and releases some really crazy records. When White and company were in LA for a Dead Weather show they did a "pop up" Third Man Records for 1 day and sold "Bizarro" copies of all the singles released at that point in limited runs of 100. These featured a backwards cover and a new label. When White was in London on Halloween they did another pop up featuring glow in the dark vinyl in limited runs of 100 and a variation of the "Your Turntable's Not Dead" slogan on the back stating "Your Turntable Is Undead!" I don't have the money to keep up with every rare variation of each record that Third Man puts out. So I decided that I would only collect this particular single. I may feature some other cool variations of the single in another post but I will just say that this was my white whale. The one I could not get. Until now. So marvel at the glorious glow in the dark vinyl and get excited for what Jack pulls out of his hat next.
